From 10–12 June 2026, industrial designer CHEN Min will participate in
DESIGN / DIALOGUE, the exhibition curated by the authoritative Nordic
design platform Ark Journal during Copenhagen’s 3daysofdesign.
Presented under the title Effortless Rigor, the exhibition brings together a
selection of works reflecting CHEN Min’s ongoing exploration of material,
craft, and making.
"Effortless Rigor" is not the title of a single work, but an ongoing reflection
that runs throughout CHEN Min’s practice. As expressed in the phrase
Rigor, made light, the apparent simplicity of an object often emerges from
a long process of observation, experimentation, and refinement. Mature design, in this sense, is not about adding complexity, but about reducing it.
This thinking is reflected across the works presented in the exhibition. Silk
Brick begins with raw silk, one of China's most enduring materials.
exploring the structural potential of a traditionally soft medium while
reconsidering its role within contemporary spatial environments. Dong
takes the ancient seal-script character 東 as its point of departure,
transforming its strokes into bent solid-wood elements joined through
traditional mortise-and-tenon construction, allowing the character to
exist simultaneously as language, structure, and object. APOW – A Piece of
Wood returns to wood itself, investigating structure, weight and
production methods in an attempt to let the material become part of the
design language.
From silk to wood, from characters to joinery, these works address
different subjects while revealing a shared approach: allowing materials
to shape language, craft to participate in design, and culture to become
part of the creative process.
