This is a collection of tableware based on Chen Min’s research of contemporary dinning habits vs traditional lacquer craft. He shaped a series of identical round plates with same four-pointed feet but in five different heights. Thus, the top of the tableware is round and the bottom is square. When piled up, the silhouette of the group looks like a blossom lotus. It also echoes the ancient Chinese belief “the sky is round and earth is square”.
For surface, he applied nature lacquer and made two color tones: a traditional black & red version and a modern rainbow color version.
